Hummus and tahini sauces are basically from Arabic Cuisine. These rich, flavor-packed vegan sauces are popular throughout the Mediterranean and the Middle East, and they can elevate any meal from kabobs to falafel sandwiches and everything in between. Perfect served as part of a mezze with some warm pita and fresh veggies too!

Homemade sauce ingredients:

One of the other things I love about making homemade tahini is that almost all of the ingredients can be found in your pantry, making this an easy impromptu dip to make for parties or a regular ol’ delicious weeknight dinner. You will need:

Sesame seeds: I used fresh sesame seeds as stale seeds may your sauce makes bitter

Garlic: This recipe calls for 3-4 cloves, but feel free to double that if you would like a more garlicky flavor.

Lemon juice: use fresh and juicy lemon

Olive oil: Olive oil is more beneficial for health. don’t use a substitute for olive oil. We will incorporate some into the hummus itself, and then drizzle extra on top for serving.

Salt: I always use Lahori salt rather than sea salt.

Cumin powder: though cumin powder isn’t added in authentic sauces I added it to bring some earthly flavor to sauces

How to make Tahini and Hummus sauces?

Making Tahini Sauce: Dry roast the sesame seeds on low-medium heat until fragrant. Combine the sesame seeds, oil, and garlic. Salt and a little bit of water into the food processor.

Blend them together until you reach the desired consistency. Here I didn’t add lemon juice as I made hummus sauce by taking half of the quantity of tahini paste. If you are making just only tahini sauce then add must lemon juice to the mixture. TAHINI SAUCE is ready to serve. transfer to the sealed container and refrigerate for up to 3 days

Making Hummus sauce: Add tahini sauce, boiled chickpeas, cumin powder, salt, and lemon juice into the food processor along with 2-3 tbsp water. Make puree for 3-4 minutes, pausing halfway to scrape down the sides of the bowl, until the hummus, is smooth.

If it seems too thick, add another tbsp of water. Taste and season with additional salt, cumin, or lemon juice if needed. Transfer to the serving bowl drizzle some olive oil and sprinkle the paprika powder on top. Hummus sauce is ready to serve.
