Fried chana chole is a delicious spicy stir-fried snack recipe, made with chickpeas, spices, and herbs. it goes very well with pav bread Or kadak pav or even with plain riceI usually make this delicious fried chana chole masala for our weekend morning breakfast.

Chickpeas (chana) are considered healthy food due to their low glycemic index and high fiber content. they also reduce  cardiovascular risk and keep the digestive tract healthy

This recipe I cooked. was taken by my elder sister. once I visited her house right there and tasted first time with a hot mug of tea. I have been amazed by eating this easy and superb taste of quick snacks.

Since then I started cooking at home for my weekend morning breakfast. and for a long time was planning to share this chana chole recipe on the blog but for lack of time, I couldn’t cook by taking the photos for the blog. so ultimately today I am sharing this tasty snack. This is best for those who love spicy food.

Recipe Notes:  

  1. Chickpeas must always be soaked well for  at least 8 hours in a lot of water to prevent bloating and to enhance  the absorption of the nutrients
  2. Both boiled chickpeas and soaked chickpeas also can be frozen  and used up whenever needed
  3. They must be used up within a month else they lose the taste
  4. I kept the chana a little wet and slightly thin as I love to eat like this more than other dry chana. so you may keep dry or wet it ups to you

Pressure the soaked chickpeas with 1 liter of water. boil them till soft using a pinch of baking soda. Pressure-cooked ones turn out to be soft and mouth-melting. Strain the chana from water, Don’t discard the water of the chana

Take all veggies and prepare them

Heat the oil and add cooked chana, Stir to mix well on medium flame. Next, add red chili powder

Add black pepper powder and salt. Cook for a while for the masala to coat the chana well then

Keep stirring chana for a while

Pour a little chana water along with mango powder

And add garam masala then mix up well

Towards the end pour the chana water if needed. Next, add chopped onion, tomato, coriander leaves, and green chilies

Further, stir to combine chana for 5 minutes on medium flame

Transfer to the serving bowl. Garnish fried chana chole with onion slices and fresh coriander leaves

  1. 300g, chickpeas boiled/canned
  2. 1.2 cups, olive oil
  3. ½ tsp, red chili powder
  4. ½ tsp, black pepper powder
  5. Salt to taste
  6. ½ tsp, mango powder
  7. 1/2 tsp, basic garam masala

For Veggies:

  1. ½ cup, onion slices
  2. ½ cup, tomato slices
  3. 1/3 cup, coriander leaves
  4. 3-4 pcs, green chilies
How to make the Fried Chana Chole?

  1. Pressure the soaked chickpeas with 1/2 liter water. boil them till soft using a pinch of baking soda
  2. Pressure-cooked ones turn out to be soft and mouth melting

  4. Don’t discard the water from the chana

  11. If you like to make dry chana chole skip the water and add only garam masala and mango powder

  15. Fry chana chole is ready
  16. Garnish fried chana chole with onion slices and fresh coriander leaves
