To prepare sorrel with lentils, ls first wash the chana, dal, then soak it in hot water for at least 30 minutes.
Take all the ingredients and prepare them all.
Heat the oil/ghee in the pot/cooker and put the onion slices. Sauté them for 3-5 minutes. Then, put chopped garlic into the onion and fry it further.
Until the onion turns slightly brow,n put chopped tomatoes, cook the tomatoes until soft.
Start to add spices and cumin seeds first,t then stir well on medium flame.e, Put chana dal in the cooker, and fry it with onion on a medium flame for around 5 minutes
Then add green chilies and crushed red chili flakes, keep stirring by adding other dry spices.
Add salt and stir to mix well, fry chana dal with onion on medium-low heat until the oil is separated.
Put mixed sorrel and spinach, and stir to combine well for 5 minutes.
Once they are mixed, we'll pour 1 cup of hot and boiled water, bring it to a boil, then close the cooker lid and let it cook for 10 minutes.s
Simmer khatta palak for 5 minutes on low heat.
Transfer to the serving dish/bowl. Khatta palak with chana dal is ready to serve

- 250g, sorrel/khatta palak
- 250g, spinach/palak
- 1 medium-sized, sliced
- 2 medium-sized, chopped tomatoes
- Salt to taste
- 1 ½ ts, crushed red chili
- 1 tbsp crushed coriander powder
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp, chopped garlic cloves
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 4-6 pieces, f long green chilies
- 1 cup of chana dal soaked in water
- 1 cup, desi ghee/ghee
How to make Khatta Palak?
- Heat the oil in a pressure cooker, then add the onion slices
- Sauté on a medium flame for a few minutes, add chopped garlic cloves, and fry them with the onion slices
- Keep frying till turns slightly brown in color
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook them until they soften
- Once the tomatoes are soft, put the cumin seeds and further fry them on a medium flame
- Now, add the soaked chana dal along with the green chilies
- Stir well, then put crushed red chili powder, crushed coriander seeds, turmeric powder, and salt
- Stir to combine well, then add the mixed sorrel and spinach together
- Stir to mix well with chana masala for 5-10 minutes until the oil is separated
- Now pour 1 cup of boiled and hot water and bring it to a boil
- Close the pressure cooker lid, after whistling, let it cook for about 10-12 minutes
- Note, if you are using a simple pot, then cook khatta palak with chana dal for around 30 minutes on a low-medium flame
- Remove the lid and allow to simmer for another 5 minutes
- Khatta Palak is ready to serve
- Transfer to the serving dish and serve hot….
- Khatta palak with chana dal can be served with naan,rotis, and rice
